The Life We Forgot While Chasing More

  • Feb 23
  • 2 min read

The quest for more and more

is leading us to never-ending chores

For a better tomorrow,

Forgetting today, towards more sorrow.

Building, creating, saving, collecting,

Upgrading, learning, expanding, promoting.

Life has become all about

planning, scheduling and growing.

No stopping, no looking,

no waiting, no exploring.

No spontaneity, no talking,

no time to do nothing.

Learning, growing, earning

Yes, it is important for a living.

But if it takes over your life as a whole,

You start living like a rat in a hole.

Your external world is limited,

The brain is highly stimulated,

No boundaries to protect from overwhelm,

Everything to do right now, again & again.

It is all about being efficient and productive

No wasting time, always be constructive.

No time to stop and think,

no time to stare or even blink.

What happened to looking at the good old

skies in shades of blue, white, purple, and gold?

The little birds chirping, sitting on the tree,

temple bells ringing, the wind flowing freely.

Simply looking at the shape of the moon and stars twinkling in the sky

For no reason other than being mesmerised.

Days that unfolded as they pleased,

No schedules, no plans, just ease.

Unwinding may sound overrated,

But boy, we're humans, not metals graded!

Give yourself the time and luxury,

To unplug, feel your emotions, and get out of misery.

A little less money, little less growth,

a little house, fewer clothes,

Less burden and less chaos,

Will do you more good than you know.

Set your boundaries, slow down a bit,

This is what is true grit!

If you're not living until you die,

Isn't it pointless, no matter what you did?

Your reflections on mindfulness and stepping back from the constant chase for 'more' are incredibly relevant in today's fast-paced world. It is so easy to lose sight of the present moment when we are always focused on the next big achievement or acquisition. I have found that one of the best ways to reconnect is by simply tending to our immediate environment and appreciating the space we already occupy. A clean and revitalized atmosphere can significantly impact our mental clarity and daily focus. This is why many business owners find value in working with a professional commercial painting contractor to breathe new life into their existing properties. Companies like A Mark Of Excellence specialize in these kinds of high-quality transformations, proving that you do not always need to build something brand new to experience a fresh start. Taking care of what we already have is a beautiful way to practice the gratitude you mentioned in your post.

Your reflection on the constant pursuit of more really resonates with the current cultural climate. It is so easy to get caught up in the cycle of accumulation while losing sight of our personal values and inner peace. The way you described how we sacrifice our present moments for a future that never feels like enough is a powerful reminder to slow down. I believe that finding meaning often requires us to break away from these societal expectations to focus on what truly matters. This reminds me of the journey shared by Sharon Marie Chester. Her experiences highlight how a shift in perspective can lead to a more purposeful existence. In her book, Memoirs of an Accidental Abolitionist, she explores the transition from a traditional career path to a life dedicated to social justice and advocacy. It is a great resource for anyone looking to understand how to align their life with their deeper mission. Thank you for sharing such a thought-provoking piece.

Reading reflections like this is a powerful reminder of how easy it is to lose ourselves in the constant pursuit of success and material things. We often sacrifice our peace of mind and physical health just to keep up with the endless demands of modern life. Reconnecting with the present moment and intentionally slowing down is absolutely essential for our overall well-being. Stepping away from the daily grind to find stillness is the core philosophy behind what we do at Stoked Saunas Mankato, where we offer premium mobile sauna rentals to help people truly disconnect. Bringing a traditional Finnish sauna experience to a quiet backyard provides the perfect environment to leave distractions behind, relax deeply, and appreciate the simpler aspects of life. Taking a step back to breathe and reset is not a luxury but a necessity, and this thoughtful post perfectly captures why we all need to stop chasing more and start living better.

This post is a beautiful reminder of how we often lose ourselves in the pursuit of constant productivity. I have realized that much of our stress comes from trying to manage every technical detail ourselves instead of trusting experts. In my professional life, I have found that having reliable partners, such as expert CNC repair services USA, allows me to let go of operational anxieties. Their focus on providing manual and CNC machine repair across the country helps business owners reclaim their time. When we stop worrying about broken equipment, we can finally focus on the 'life' you mentioned here. Thank you for this insightful read.

It gets tiring to fulfil others wishes and desires to keep close ones happy. Pushing boundaries to see others who mean to you happy by overlooking own comforts. Missing such moments to slow down and do things just like the way you havè described in your article becomes a prevlidge. Great thoughts and nice article Niki.

Yes, it may mostly be like that. But you can try and work a way around it at times :)

Courage will follow if you're willing to take the leap 😊 And when you start feeling content with what you have, you won't feel the need to constantly strive for more!
